About Us

Hello, I'm Jeannie Ridgeway. Seven years ago, my husband Kevin and I turned our two careers into one.

Kevin worked as a cabinetmaker and supported his family with a job he loved, but was somewhat limited in his "end product".

I worked in a jewelry store, but had a goal to design and make my own line of jewelry.

Both of us shared our love for the outdoors, often taking trips to the Adirondack Mountains to enjoy the water, hills and trees. Stopping in the multitude of shops there, we fell in love with the furniture and decorative items which spurred our dream... What if..?

The infamous Labor Day storm of 1998 left us with an abundant supply of wood just waiting for our creative minds to fashion into one-of-a-kind items.

This was the beginning of Unique Woodworks. We began to look at each piece of wood as if it had "grown" specifically for a special finished item.

The unique grain of the wood plays an integral part in the development of every piece.

Ours is a love story that is never ending. We were married on a river boat in the Adirondacks. With a love for the unique, possessing a shop full of tools, and with an artist's touch, we can turn any piece of wood into a finely crafted decorative home accessory or rustic furniture item (done in the Adirondack twig tradition and embellished with fine carvings). Since we use no patterns, each piece is a totally one-of-a-kind original.

Unique Woodworks has received awards at the New York State Fair and various art shows for our furniture, picture frames, and sculptures. Our customers stop by our quaint gallery for a "quick look", and end up taking home one or more items time and time again.

We proudly display our creations at the Lake Placid Lodge and the Adirondack Store in Lake Placid.

Items are also on display at The Point on Upper Saranac Lake, the Ralph Kylloe Gallery in Lake Luzerne, and in our own gallery in Cleveland, NY.

The Unique Woodworks gallery is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sundays.

If you plan on passing through scenic Central New York, please contact us for directions so that you can visit the gallery and experience these wonderful creations in person.
